The Laboratory of Clinical Cognitive Sciences was represented at the event ‘Neurotechnology and Human Rights: A Global Framework for Responsible Innovation,’ organized by the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO, by Prof. Univ. Dr. Ioana Podina, the Director of LSCC, President of the MINDCARE FOR ALL Association, and member of the UNESCO Ad Hoc Expert Group (AHEG), who was also involved in the development of the initial version of the Recommendation on the Ethics of Neurotechnologies.
The event took place shortly after the adoption of the Recommendation on the Ethics of Neurotechnologies, the first global normative instrument dedicated to establishing ethical standards in the field of neurotechnologies, adopted by UNESCO Member States and entering into force on 12 November 2025 (more details here).
The meeting brought together university professors, researchers, clinicians, engineers, and representatives of public institutions, with the primary aim of informing participants and fostering discussion on the ethical and human rights implications arising from the rapid development of neurotechnologies, which are increasingly being used in mental health, education, and other sensitive areas.
During the discussions, participants supported the proposal to establish a national interdisciplinary and interinstitutional working group aimed at raising public awareness and contributing to the development of strategies and policy proposals for the responsible use of neurotechnologies.
