Associate Professor Dr. Ioana Podina Selected for the UNESCO International Expert Group

Associate Professor Dr. Ioana Podina was selected by the UNESCO Secretariat to join the International Expert Group tasked with drafting the recommendation on the ethics of neurotechnology.

The group, consisting of 24 experts (one from each represented country), held its first meeting last week, from April 22 to 26, at the UNESCO headquarters. During this meeting, Dr. Ioana Podina was elected Vice President of the working committee, as a representative of the regional group of countries that includes Romania. This role aligns with the mission of the Laboratory of Cognitive Clinical Sciences to combat pseudoscience, which is also emerging in the field of neurotechnologies.

The recommendation drafting process includes upcoming global, regional, and national consultations organized by UNESCO, aimed at ensuring that all relevant perspectives are considered in a transparent and inclusive manner. The results of these consultations will contribute to the final text, which will be negotiated intergovernmentally in 2025, with the recommendation expected to be adopted in November 2025, during the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.
